Our Space

Our center is located right outside Rurrenabaque Bolivia. Here, we offer lodging in the form of both cabañas as well as tambos.

Casa de Pawua is surrounded by primitive jungle which offers close proximity to all the medicinal plants our work requires and it’s not unusual to spot the occasional cappuccino monkey or parrot on the land. Most importantly though, the land offers the tranquility our patients need while focusing on their treatment. Our space is conveniently located right next to a crystal clear river with drinkable fresh water. There is also a small natural swimming pool where our patients can go bathing. In rain season, there is a water fall about a 10-minute walk from the cabañas.

We started buildling Casa de Pawua in 2018, which means that we have basic accomodation in place. You will likely at times see some work being done at the center like fixing stone steps and painting. While we plan to add a few more structures we are very mindful about doing so both at a steady pace as well as always keeping in mind our principles when it comes to construction: sustainable building using natural materials and making as much use out of cut trees as possible, employing workers from our nearby village to support the local community and making sure that we retain as much of the surrounding greenness as we can not cutting down any trees unless they present a safety hazard.

Our facilities

Guest cabañas

We have two guest cabañas, which are shared spaces. Both cabañas have bunk beds with clean sheets, blankets and mosquito nets, one of the two also has a veranda with hammocks. Both offer immersion in the jungle without being isolating from the rest of the center.

Large cabaña with shared space and kitchen

This is our largest construction that currently serves as our temporary ceremonial space, common area with hammocks and kitchen. The cabaña has a view overlooking a crystal clear river.

Tambos

For those looking to do a stricter tambo dieta (generally this is for apprentices to further their studies as well as patients suffering from severe illness), we also offer more basic accomodation option in the form of a tambo. A tambo is a simple construction (ours are tree-house like structures) that allow for a diet in complete isolation and immersion in the dieta.

Toilet

As we do not have running water on the land at the moment, our toilet solution is an eco-friendly “baño seco” (dry toilet/ privy). Of course, it has both toilet paper as well as sawdust used for the “flushing”.

Electricity

We have electricity on the land and each cabaña has lights as well as sockets (regular Bolivian sockets) available for use. Of course, during the dieta we ask you to put your phone and other electronic devices away so that you are able to focus on the healing, learning and unlearning that brought you to Casa de Pawua in the first place. The tambos do not have electricity.

Water

At the moment, we do not have running water on the land, though it is something we are working toward. We have a crystal clear river on the land with fresh water straight from the mountains. This is the water we drink and cook with. If you have an extremely sensitive stomach we can purchase bottled water but we have never had an instance of anyone experiencing any issues drinking this water. For bathing, we have a few natural “swimming pools/ bathing areas” dug out by our team. Some are more central and some offer more privacy. Bathing in and drinking natural water offers an even more immersive experince for the dieta.

Look-out point

Casa de Pawua has a look-out point or “mirador” as it is called here. The spot takes roughly 20 minutes to get to and offers beautiful views of the jungle - especially during sunrise. The walk up is done at the discretion of our team. Even though we have cleaned the path and built a rail for the first portion of the walk, it is still jungle and for the safety of our patients we require that a member from our team guides the walk.

Cabaña or tambo for the ayahuasca diet?

Our cabañas offer a simple and more comfortable stay. Each cabaña includes beds, mosquito nets and hammocks. For those looking to immerse themselves more in the jungle with an intense focus on their master plant dieta, we highly recommend staying in one of our tambos. A tambo is a tree-house like construction where you will be equipped with a mattress and a mosquito net. This is the traditional way of doing the master plant dieta and offers much more solitude and tranquility.

Whether you choose to stay in the cabaña or tambo, we will prepare and bring the meals to you and both options will allow you to fall asleep under a starry night sky to the symphonic sounds of the Bolivian jungle.
